Embryo Humor July 25 2006 Tony Snow is a former speechwriter for Bush I, and, most recently, a talking head on the Fox "News" Channel. Now he's the current Bush's press secretary, in which capacity he said something funny recently. Regarding the presidential veto of stem cell research -- specifically, cells destined for the dumpster anyway -- he told the White House press corps, "It's inappropriate for the federal government to finance something that many people consider murder." I didn't see Snow say this. I only read about it. But I'll assume he spoke with a straight face. Even though it was the same day the UN released a report saying that more than 14,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed in the aftermath of their, um, "liberation." This year. That's over 2,300 a month -- just through June. The United States did not kill all those civilians -- only some of them. (Sorry! Collateral damage!) But it is our illegal, unjustified aggression that unleashed the instability behind the carnage. Meaning that, after almost three and a half years, more Iraqi civilians have died because of George Bush than because of Saddam Hussein. I, like many people, consider that murder, and I wonder why the federal government finances it. But you gotta hand it to Republicans -- when it comes to their "culture of life," they're a laugh a minute. |
