Let Them Eat Cake September 9
2005 “What I’m hearing, which is sort of scary, is that they all want to stay in Texas. Everybody is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway so this [chuckles]—this is working very well for them.” -- Marie Antoinette, (aka Barbara Bush, (R)-Mother-of-all-that-is-Evil.) === Newsflash, Your Majesty! Those people might want to stay in Texas just long enough to locate family members they have not seen since the catastrophe began to unfold. But in addition to wanting to have a base from which to locate lost loved ones, many of them have already been uprooted at least twice – once by evacuating to the Superdome or the Morial Convention Center and then again to Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, or elsewhere. Maybe they want a chance to just rest and reflect; get their bearings; contemplate the difficult journey ahead. I cannot imagine what they are going through but I’d hardly describe the situation as “working very well for them.” Yes, Texas and most Texans are hospitable people. Geez, Mrs. Bush! We’ve let your ilk stay for a long time, haven’t we? I’ve been praying you Bushes would go back to Connecticut! Obviously the American Queen Mum has her finger on the pulse of the people though – making sure the dead stay dead, no doubt. I’m seriously wondering how Republicans that defend the Bush Administration can still stand. They should be too dizzy to remain upright after all the spinning they do. I’m hardly someone who’s prone to playing the race card but in this case, I have to say to the Bush Administration – the whole lot (“$1,000-shoes” Condi as well) – your hoods and robes are showing. The overwhelming majority of those affected by this disaster were poor African-Americans. That is the most obvious reason the Bush Administration dragged its heels. I can hear Karl “Turd Blossom" Rove saying, “Let those blackies drown and kill each other, they didn’t vote for us anyway!” Yeah, Karl, but what about the other victims, the poor and white who probably did vote your way? Oh yeah: the operative word being “poor”—they’re not Bush's real base anyway. Hell, the Navy SEALs, Marine Force Recon, Delta Force and the Easter Bunny would have been deployed if this had only been three affluent white women stranded at a bus stop in Harlem on a dry day! Barbara Bush’s comments only further illustrate how disconnected from reality she is. It also underscores the family’s contempt for the rest of us commoners. I’ll bet you can just smell the compassion in the New Orleans air. The only accurate part of the above Barb Bush quote is the “scary” reference. I’ll bet it is scary, Babs, to have all those poor and truly disenfranchised people in your adopted backyard… and threatening to stay. What would happen if they should all register to vote as Texans? That could be real scary come November 2006... |
