Screw

Before the election, I had taken to
trolling at conservative forums and blogs. (See "Escape
from the Planet of the Apes"). It was an instructive, if
often frightening, experience. Not having been a member of the Klan
or the American Nazi party, I had never encountered such open sewers
of stewing hatred and blind rage.
The amusing thing about it (well, it was amusing before Nov. 2) was
how these hateful, raging malcontents would flood their forums with
post after post saying how hateful and filled with rage we
"dummocrats" and slimebag liberals are.
Whenever I would post something -- and I would try to stick to news
articles that showed their views might not match the facts -- they
would leap on me like snarling, rabid dingos, epithets spewing.
I was a communist; a coward; an appeaser; a coward; a fag; a bin
Laden supporter, if not an active terrorist; an anti-American cog in
the liberal media conspiracy, irrationally obsessed with bringing
down a man of compassion, integrity, principle and resolve.
Now these lunatics have gotten their way. And boy, you can be sure
they're reveling in it. Half of America and the rest of the world
are appalled at another four years of the Yellow Rogue of Texas
(thanks for that one to SF Gate columnist Mark
Morford), and they couldn't be happier.
It's enough to turn your stomach. And make you want to leave the
country.
Already, Canada's immigration web site has been flooded with
American requests for information.
My friends talk -- half-jokingly? one-third jokingly? -- about
pooling assets for a villa in Spain. And that old idea I had, that a
dark, hairy Semite might be a highly desirable novelty to the blond
beauties of Sweden, clouds my vision as I confront yet another
progressive e-newsletter urging me not to give up hope.
My personal feeling is that a slight majority of this country craves
a Christian Taliban. And with the gains Republicans made last
Tuesday, they might get it.
I also think we've gotten exactly what we deserve. Because of the
neglect of civics, social studies, and American history in our
schools -- and I don't blame NCLB for this -- the idea of
"patriotism" has been hijacked by people who have
absolutely no conception of what patriotism entails, or what it is
about America that merits it.
These people now learn about America in church, and think their kids
should learn church things in school. They rant about the
Constitution protecting their right to own AKs, or needing amending
because of the danger from same-sex weddings, but they don't
understand or respect the Constitution. They don't know how the men
who wrote it agonized over the limits of executive power and
personal freedoms, the role of the judiciary, the separation of
church and state, the right to dissent, the waging of war.
And now, with the encouragement of Christian mullahs and Rupert
Murdoch, these self-righteous, close-minded ignoramuses think that
objecting to an undeclared, pre-emptive war is anti-American; that
"activist" judges imperil the common good when they rule
against legal discrimination; and that God speaks through George W.
Bush. And they have the rest of us contemplating emigration.
Not this slimebag liberal. I'm going to stay and fight. I'm going to
antagonize the "values" fascists at every opportunity. And
confront their ignorance and hate with facts and reason. Because I'm the
patriot. I've served my country in uniform. I've studied -- and
still study -- our history, and our Constitution, and how they've guided each other. I've worked hard to be an
informed citizen. And I
will not stand by while bullying intellectual weaklings, whose idea
of patriotism is an "I'm proud to be an American" bumper
sticker, gloat about the triumph of God's will.
I'm going to keep fighting for America, the way patriots always
have. My blog, my words will be my weapon. Oh no, you deluded
sociopaths. You're not going to chase me from my own country.
Those hot Swedish blonds will never know what they're missing.
